Cable Load Generator
The Cable Load Generator (CLGD), developed and produced in cooperation with Rohde & Schwarz is an industry-leading test solution for DOCSIS RF SC-QAM and OFDM DOCSIS load generation. CLGD simulates an entire cable headend including the real-world HFC cable plan RF impairments.
Key Features
Real-time Generator
With 2 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ interfaces, the CLGD supports real-time modulation of user data.
DOCSIS 4.0 Extended Spectrum DOCSIS
CLGD supports DOCSIS 4.0 Extended Spectrum (FDD) channel loading up to 1.8GHz.
Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX)
CLGD supports DOCSIS 4.0 Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX) channel loading with upstream carriers up to 694MHz.
Simulation of RF Impairments
Emulating real world environments in the lab requires the emulation of RF impairments. CLGD simulates AM Hum, Phase Noise, Micro-reflections, Narrow-bandwidth Interferers, and AWGN.
Legacy DOCSIS Carriers
Loads to legacy SC-QAM (J.83 Annex A/B/C), A-TDMA, and S-CDMA can be generated at the same time as DOCSIS 3.1 and more recent OFDM and OFDMA carriers.
Analog TV Carriers
NTSC and PAL analog video carriers are supported from the CLGD to simulate legacy carriers.
Applications
As a multi-channel instrumentation-grade DOCSIS transmitter with the ability to generate impairments, the CLGD is a powerful testing and validation tool that allows cable plant testing of equipment inside the lab. The CLGD generates many important test configurations to support a variety of applications:
- Test with live data
- Generate different upstream or downstream Cable Plant loads
- Apply RF impairments and distortions
STB and Cable Modem Validation
The controllable load generation of the CLGD makes it a powerful tool for test and validation of set top box (STB) and cable modem silicon and products.

HFC Equipment Validation
Fiber nodes, RF Amplifiers, Taps, Splitters, and other equipment that is deployed in HFC networks need to be fully characterized under full channel loading which CLGD can enable in the lab.
