After a 37-year career at SED/Calian, Sandy Taylor is retiring from her position as a material handler, effective July 14, 2023. Sandy started with SED Systems as an assembler in 1986 and she explains how it was almost over before it started. “It was only about a year in and there were going to be some layoffs for a couple of months, but as luck would have it there was a full-time opening in stores. I applied, and here I am 37 years later.”

After almost four decades, Sandy says that her time with the company seemed to go by quickly. “I remember being asked by a retiring co-worker how many years I had left to retire, and at that time it was 22. And today here I am.”

Sandy’s colleagues noted her valued contributions to the Calian team. “There will be a gap in stores with Sandy gone,” said purchasing manager, Candice Mosterd. “She was extremely knowledgeable in the stores area and has been quite an asset to the team. She was a whiz at MIS data entry, with her fingers flying over the keyboard processing transactions quicker than I could read the numbers. Enjoy your retirement Sandy, well deserved!”

“It’s been a real pleasure working with Sandy over the years,” said senior assembler, Karen Giles-Thiessen. “She was always there with a smile and willing to help. She will be greatly missed. Best wishes in your retirement.”

Senior assembler, Donna Tesch shared that she will miss Sandy at work. “In the words of Winnie the Pooh, ‘how lucky I am to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard’.”

When asked what she will miss the most about Calian, Sandy said, “I will miss the people here that I have seen five days a week for literally over half my life.” She noted all the changes over the years with people, products and projects. “I’m ready for the next phase of my life.”

Calian Advanced Technologies thanks Sandy Taylor for her impressive 37 years of dedication and wishes her all the best in her retirement.
