Environmental Practices and Solutions
Calian meets all environmental laws and regulations of the communities in which we operate. In addition to offering lead-free manufacturing capabilities in compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), we constantly look for ways to reduce our environmental footprint through new processes and materials.
Calian delivers many solutions focused on environmental safety through our emergency management, and environmental and nuclear teams. Calian provides radiation and environmental protection expertise at Canadian Navy ports on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to mitigate radiation risk to the port, to personnel, and to the surrounding community.
Social: Military Family Doctor Network
Supporting defence in Canada goes beyond delivering solutions. It means supporting the defence community and the people in it. The Calian Military Family Doctor Network (MFDN) is a partnership with the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) that connects military family members when they relocate across Canada.
This service is provided at no cost to the military family and is one less thing to worry about during a move. Calian has connected more than 3,700 family members with a family doctor in 14 locations since the program started in 2016.
Active Member of the Military Community
Calian is an active member of the military community, providing donations and participating in related organizations, such as CADSI, Canadian Red Cross, Annual Senators CAF Appreciation Night, Women in Defence (WIDS), Royal Ottawa Hospital, Montfort Hospital, Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran’s Health (CIMVHR), local foodbanks and charity events.
In 2022, Calian and its employees also supported the Red Cross Ukraine relief fund, recognizing the dire need resulting from the war in Ukraine.
Supporting Indigenous Resilience
Calian partners with Indigenous communities through band councils and territorial governments to support community resilience through emergency management services, environmental assessments and health services delivery.
Calian works with First Nations communities across Canada to deliver emergency preparedness consulting and training, exercises, and rehearsals for responding to floods, wildfires, and storms, and search and rescue training. In partnership with the Government of Nunavut, Calian provides nurses for primary care in Iqaluit and to many fly-in communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Calian provided screening and vaccines services to northern and remote communities through projects such as Ontario’s Operation Remote Immunity.
