Defence and ESG

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices are increasingly important for the defence industry. Contributing value beyond normal business operations is required. Our ESG commitments include providing environmental and risk assessments, connecting military family members to family doctors when military members are posted to a new location, building partnerships with Indigenous communities and businesses, and adhering to equitable business practices.

Environmental Practices and Solutions

Calian meets all environmental laws and regulations of the communities in which we operate. In addition to offering lead-free manufacturing capabilities in compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), we constantly look for ways to reduce our environmental footprint through new processes and materials.

Calian delivers many solutions focused on environmental safety through our emergency management, and environmental and nuclear teams. Calian provides radiation and environmental protection expertise at Canadian Navy ports on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to mitigate radiation risk to the port, to personnel, and to the surrounding community.

Social: Military Family Doctor Network

Supporting defence in Canada goes beyond delivering solutions. It means supporting the defence community and the people in it. The Calian Military Family Doctor Network (MFDN) is a partnership with the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) that connects military family members when they relocate across Canada.

This service is provided at no cost to the military family and is one less thing to worry about during a move. Calian has connected more than 3,700 family members with a family doctor in 14 locations since the program started in 2016.
