OTTAWA, May 28, 2024– Calian Group Ltd. (TSX: CGY), a diverse products and services company providing innovative healthcare, communications, learning and cybersecurity solutions continues to deliver solutions for defence customers as the company pursues its global growth strategy. Calian will attend CANSEC 2024 as a Gold Sponsor.

2024 started off strong for Calian, a diversified global company that delivers immersive training, health care, IT and cybersecurity, and defence manufacturing solutions for defence customers in Canada, for NATO and for NATO member countries. Calian is with its customers every step of the way, from requirement to execution. Decades of experience and diversified solutions means customers trust Calian when they can’t fail across a wide range of missions.

Calian has closed over $125M in Canadian defence deals this year across all of its solution areas. Including winning work for up to $90M with General Dynamics Missions Systems – Canada for IT and cybersecurity services and solutions to support the Canadian Army. Calian also won a $23M contract to provide a health services training program, and a $10M contract to deliver individual training to build skills and develop competencies for a range of Canadian Armed Forces occupation types. Calian’s GNSS division also won defence contracts, securing a deal to manufacture and deliver “plug and play” GNSS antenna solutions for Polaris RTK.

Calian is a global company and has expanded its horizons in 2024. Calian acquired Mabway for up to $41M to expand its range of training solutions and to establish a larger presence in the United Kingdom. Mabway is a leader for supporting large military exercises with role-playing environments that simulate real-world situations, and also delivers technical and engineering education for maritime forces. With over a decade of experience supporting British Army training exercises, the acquisition of Mabway brings new capabilities and new possibilities for Calian in the British, European and Middle East defence markets.

Calian also expanded into new areas of work for NATO in 2024, winning a contract with NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) to develop and conduct chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) training, including evaluation and training support components. This project will support NATO’s CBRN defence capability by improving readiness in the case of major conflict.

In 2024, Calian has re-affirmed its commitment to the defence community. Calian was the corporate sponsor of the 2024 Canadian Tulip Festival, commemorating Canada’s contribution to Dutch liberation in the Second World War. Since that time, the Kingdom of the Netherlands has donated tulip bulbs to Canada to celebrate the friendship between nations. This year, the Royal Canadian Air Force sponsored the Tulip Festival as part of the 100-year anniversary.

Calian participated in Space Canada’s Space Day on the Hill and Horizons conferences. Space is increasingly involved in everything people do—from cell phone services to military operations—with innovation leading the way. Calian is a member of the Board of Directors of Space Canada, focusing efforts on space solutions for defence and national security customers.

Innovation drives the development of new solutions, expanding the range of what Calian delivers for customers and providing new possibilities for the broader defence community. Calian recently launched an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant capability for developing scenarios and writing traffic for large, complex military exercise. This AI capability allows content to be generated automatically and then reviewed by experienced human operators. This technology has vastly reduced the amount of effort required to develop exercises, delivering greater agility to military customers.

Calian also announced a $75,000 commitment to the Canadian Institute of Military and Veterans Health Research (CIMVHR) over three years to deliver research on how digital and remote health solutions can improve military family access to healthcare services in Canada. With almost a decade of experience connecting military family members to family doctors after the military family is posted to a new location in Canada, Calian is committed to improving access to healthcare for military families across Canada. Calian hires military spouses across Canada wherever possible and hires an average of 100 veterans per year across our delivery teams. Calian remains committed to the broader defence and veteran community.

Calian’s commitment to customers and to the defence community is being recognized. This year, the Canadian Defence Review (CDR) recognized Calian’s successes in defence by ranking it 21st in the Top 100 Defence Companies in Canada. Companies are ranked on their economic impact, research and development (R&D) initiatives, innovation, contribution to Canada’s national security, domestic and international contract wins, excellence in management and overall support for Canada’s military. Calian’s CEO Kevin Ford was also recognized by CDR as the Defence Executive of the Year for his leadership in building Calian’s presence in the defence market in Canada.

Calian has a global mindset and commitment to delivering solutions for customers around the world. In 2024, Calian has sustained momentum on delivering defence programs for existing customers and expanding commitments across the defence community. It is also expanding ambitions with new innovations for defence customers, solution delivery in new subject matter areas, and securing acquisitions with new capabilities in global markets. The company continues to grow globally while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Calian delivers confidence for military customers, no matter their needs.
