In 2023, Calian took additional strides towards creating a more sustainable and responsible future, with a focus on the well-being and growth of our people. We launched several initiatives that demonstrated our dedication to our workforce, such as:
- Supporting employee health and safety through our revitalized health, safety and wellness program
- Fostering growth through the launch of a formal leadership development program
- Launching a retirement savings program with a 3% Calian match to employee contributions
- Hosting an inaugural speed mentoring session between employees and Calian leadership
Prioritizing Health & Safety
Central to our values and mission is the well-being of our employees and the communities we serve. For our employees, this means a workplace where they can perform their work with confidence, knowing their safety is a top priority.
Calian appointed a dedicated Health & Safety Manager to instill robust safety protocols and cultivate a culture of well-being. Additionally, the Calian employee orientation package was updated to include health, safety and wellness awareness training. Monthly safety awareness topic (MSAT) initiatives were introduced in June 2023, which have contributed towards creating awareness and building on key learnings and competencies. Examples include communicable disease prevention, occupational health and safety (OHS) reporting, an overview of the internal responsibility system (IRS) which focuses on specific duties, rights and responsibilities, and the shared obligation of employers, managers, workers, and health and safety committees to keep our workplace healthy and safe.
Nurturing Leadership with Excellence
Employee growth radiates beyond our walls. Calian recognizes that investing in the development of our people is integral to our long-term success. Calian launched an expansive Leadership Development Program in 2023. Under the guidance of our Talent Director, 29 leaders from various business units participated in a six-month, 100+ hour curriculum designed to refine leadership skills and establish a consistent skillset.
Jazmin Flores, Calian Health Market Segment Leader reflects on the program and states, “Being part of the inaugural leadership development program cohort has been a fantastic growth and learning experience. The program has provided me with invaluable insights and knowledge to hone my leadership skills, while fostering an environment of collaboration across the organization. The investment in this program is a testament to Calian’s commitment to nurturing and empowering its most valuable asset—its people."
Retirement Savings Program
In 2023, we were delighted to introduce an exciting new addition to our employee support program: a retirement savings plan matching offering. The match is available to all new hires and existing employees not currently participating in any other company funded retirement or pension program. Through this program, Calian will encourage eligible employees to save by matching up to three per cent of their retirement savings contributions—helping to accelerate their retirement goals.
Inaugural Speed Mentoring Event
In October 2023, Calian’s employee resource groups (ERGs) leadership team was pleased to host an inaugural speed mentoring event. Participation included employees from various business units across Calian including employees by acquisition.
Attended by 31 mentees and 19 mentors from the senior leadership level, this virtual event facilitated impactful connections across business units. CEO Kevin Ford’s opening remarks set the tone for insightful breakout sessions, sparking meaningful discussions and breaking down organizational barriers.
