Meet Olivia Greenberg, Account Executive, ITCS.

Tell us about your background?

I was born and raised in Ottawa and I love this city.

I attended Queen’s University and graduated in 2019 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Business.

I always had jobs relating to sales, marketing, and event management but the sales side of things always interested me the most. Sales was definitely something I was always naturally good at, and I really enjoyed getting to know my customers/clients and helping them find exactly what they were looking for.

When COVID hit in March 2020, I was working two part-time jobs but had lost both due to everything shutting down. One of those jobs was actually working for the Ottawa Senators, which was a pretty cool experience.

With sales as my background, I started looking for something more full-time and permanent, and ultimately with a company that aligned with my goals and values. That’s how I came across Calian, one of the leaders in the consulting space. I was grateful to have been hired almost 3.5 years ago, and I’ve never looked back!

What is your role at Calian? Tell us about the type of work you do.

I am an Account Executive for the ITCS team, specifically for on-demand consulting here in the NCR region for both IT and Cyber Security Professional Services. When one of our government clients requires consulting support under either of the IT or Cyber Security umbrellas, that’s when I get involved.

I have had some very interesting, yet serious conversations with my clients that always reminds me of the importance of what we deliver and how quickly we do it.

Overall, my responsibilities vary—from business development, to pursing competitive RFPs released by several different government departments, to ensuring that all of our consultants are happy in their roles. The role is very strategic and is all about relationship building—two things that I really love most about my job.

Some of my biggest clients are Public Works, the Department of National Defence, Shared Services, and Library and Archives Canada. The majority of the contracts that I oversee are multi-year contracts, sometimes with 20-30 consultants working simultaneously. Other contracts can be smaller as well, with only 1-2 consultants. Either way, it gives me a huge sense of purpose knowing that, for example, if one of my clients is part of a large cloud migration in the federal government, and they need professional services immediately, we can provide that quickly and efficiently, with top talent.

What do you like most about working for Calian?

The people. It’s safe to say that the people you work with contribute to much of your success and happiness in your career. We dedicate so much of our time to our career, and that just emphasizes the importance of having supportive, caring, kind, and motivating people around you. I really got lucky—I love my team and the people at this company.

What keeps you busy outside of work?

Outside of my 9-5, I wear many hats, so bear with me here. Aside from planning my next trip, I really enjoy the outdoors, so in the summers you will catch me hiking in the Gatineau Hills with friends and family or playing softball with my beer league. I also really enjoy going up to my cottage (and other people’s cottages, if you have one let me know) and wakeboarding up there. In the winters, I ski a lot as well. I also taught myself how to play guitar and DJ a few years ago, and although my talent growth in both of these areas has been almost linear, I still know how to put on a party…
