Ottawa, ON July 6, 2016 — Calian Group Ltd. (TSX: CGY) is pleased to announce that its Health Services line has continued to expand their scope of services and diversify their customer base with the award of several new contracts over the past few months in correctional services at the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government with a total value of approximately $4 million.

“Calian is one of Canada’s largest health services companies and the only one with a truly national scope, operating at all levels of government and with services in every province across Canada," said Scott Murray, Vice President of Health Services at Calian. "We are able to design and deliver customized health services to suit each of our customers’ diverse needs, whether in the public or private sector.”

For correctional services, Calian's Health Services provides quality onsite medical services that save these organizations time and resources, while concurrently minimizing the strain on local hospitals and other local health resources and reducing the risks associated with transferring inmates unnecessarily. Calian's Health Services is also uniquely positioned to deliver standardized health services and programs across multiple sites within organizations and, in particular, across multiple health jurisdictions within Canada.

Examples of the contracts recently awarded to Calian include the provision of medical services, dental services, nursing services, occupational health services as well as mental health services to customers such as Canada Border Services Agency (at their Immigration Holding Centre in Toronto, ON) and a number of correctional facilities across Canada under the purview of Correctional Services Canada (at the federal level), Ontario Correctional Services (at the provincial level for services at the Toronto South Detention Centre and the Southwest Detention Center in Windsor, ON), and the City of Surrey, BC (at the municipal level for services at the local RCMP detention centre).

The contract for the provision of health services to the City of Surrey RCMP Cell Block is particularly noteworthy as this was Calian's first foray into correctional services at the municipal level of government. In recent years, of the roughly 6,000 prisoners brought to the City of Surrey RCMP Cell Block, approximately 12% or just over 700 prisoners needed to be transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Establishing onsite medical services at this facility has already shown significant improvement in the number of patients being referred to local hospitals and, as a result, is receiving national attention as a model for the provision of health services in such correctional settings.

“These contracts demonstrate the unique strength and diverse expertise of Calian’s Health Services,” said Kevin Ford, President and Chief Executive Officer at Calian. “Aligned with the customer diversification pillar of our growth strategy, we are continually evolving each of our service lines to bring our world class services to a broader base of customers.”
