The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

Calian recognizes the vital importance of acknowledging Canada’s tragic past in our shared journey towards reconciliation. We know that reconciliation requires awareness of that past, acknowledgement of harm inflicted and actionable changes in behavior.

Calian is making a $10,000 donation to Indspire, an Indigenous national charity aimed at enriching Canada through Indigenous education and inspiring achievement. Indspire invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people for the long-term benefit of the individuals, their families, their communities and Canada. It is Indspire’s goal that, within a generation, every Indigenous child will graduate.

Calian is dedicated to promoting and upholding the rights and interests of Indigenous peoples. Our formal Indigenous engagement policy outlines how we work to build meaningful, lasting relationships with these communities by listening to, learning from, and leveraging Indigenous voices. We continue to expand our knowledge as we deliver a broad range of services to Northern and remote communities, including health services and emergency management services. Our emergency management team works with communities across Canada to develop action plans to prepare for and respond to emergencies such as wildfires and flooding.

Calian remains committed to reconciliation today and every day, but we know there is more work to do. We encourage our partners and friends to join us in supporting organizations committed to furthering Indigenous rights and interests across Canada and beyond.
