Calian's SED Division Signs Contracts Exceeding $10 Million

Kanata, Ontario, October 17, 2006  - Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX: CTY) is pleased to announce that its Systems Engineering Division (SED) has recently been awarded several contracts that reflect repeat business and a strengthened position for Calian in the Canadian and International markets. The total value of these contracts exceeds $10 million.

During the fourth quarter of 2006, SED commenced work on a multi-million dollar contract with Ottawa based Skywave Mobile Communications Inc to provide them with new gateway stations for their Inmarsat D+ communications network. The gateways will be used by Skywave to provide a communications infrastructure for asset tracking and SCADA applications.

In August of 2006, SED signed a contract valued at over $1 million with a large Japanese communications company to provide monitoring systems for their satellite communications network. The system provided by SED will monitor communications traffic being carried on the satellite network as well as provide monitor and control of the earth station equipment.

In September of 2006, SED signed a contract valued at more than $3 million to manufacture Vehicle Interface Units to be supplied to the Department of National Defense. The contract is a follow on order for VIUs that SED had previously supplied.

Finally, in early October 2006, SED received a contract valued at nearly $3 million for the supply of Ariel Head Assemblies (AHAs). Under the term of the order, which is a follow on from an order that SED delivered in 2004, SED will supply AHAs which are an integral part of a Manportable Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar (MSTAR) product.

"We are encouraged by the activity level in the last few months. These contracts are confirmation that we continue to be a supplier of choice with existing customers as well as a preferred alternative with new ones" said SED's President, Brent McConnell. The above contracts are all underway and are expected to be completed over the course of the fiscal year 2007.
