Sandra CoteVP, IT and Professional Services
As Calian's Vice President of IT and Professional Services, Sandra Cote is responsible for the development and delivery of services that aid our customers in achieving maximum success from their information technology infrastructure. Our goal is to deliver expertise and products to our customers that harness the significant power from their IT investments. For Sandra, the Calian customer experience is always top of mind. Sandra believes in driving deep relationships with customers and partners that are ultimately empowered by the talented people on her team.
Sandra's broad range of sales and management skills were honed over a 30 year period working for various Information Technology focused companies, including SAP, Sybase and Digital Equipment. Sandra stays current with emerging trends in the information technology space, through active participation in the Information Technology Association of Canada.
Donald WhittyVP, Training
Don is a Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) with a passion for learning, technology and innovation. He brings learning industry expertise from national and international markets and has extensive business experience helping clients innovate learning, close competency gaps and achieve and maintain compliance.
Don joins Calian understanding the learning and development landscape beyond the company’s current markets. He has run programs for pharma, publishing, telecom and oil and gas, and has large private enterprise experience having worked on the learning programs of many Global clients.
Throughout his career, Don has undertaken visiting faculty engagements at universities in Canada, the United States and Ireland, and has conducted research on next-generation learning including gamification, augmented reality and knowledge engineering. Don was CEO of Mosaic Technologies before serving as Director of Information and Knowledge Management for Suncor Energy from 2009 to 2015, and then Chief Learning Strategist for Tata Interactive Systems until the end of 2017.
Mike McCall, PEng, M.Eng.VP, Engineering and Technical Services
Mike McCall is the Vice President of Calian’s Engineering and Technical Services Line and in this role is responsible for quality and growth of the company’s nuclear engineering and emergency preparedness sections as well as military and government engineering services. Mike was the CEO of International Safety Research Inc. (ISR) for 13 years prior to its acquisition by Calian and before that was a marine system engineering officer in the Royal Canadian Navy for 23 years.
Mike has led and managed small and large teams on a variety of complex engineering consultancy and R&D projects in Canada and internationally. He has led many technical and research including cosmic radiation effects on aircraft and space travel as well as electromagnetic pulse destruction of land mines. Mike is passionate about innovation in engineering and providing clients with quality solutions.
Mike holds a M. Eng. in Nuclear Engineering and a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering and is a PEng. in Ontario.
Gordon McDonald, P.EngVP, Health Services
As Vice President of Calian Health, Gordon McDonald leads one of Canada's largest national health services organizations which, for more than 14 years, has managed healthcare professionals and health programs as well as primary care and occupational health clinics. Gordon is focused on helping customers deliver and manage high-quality health care services for long-term, short-term, cyclical or temporary health care services. A professional engineer, he has over 27 years of experience in engineering, IT, management, health services and business development.
Gordon joined Calian's Health Services team in 2016 and assumed the role of Director as well as Program Manager for Calian’s Health Services Support Contract for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). He led Calian's successful bid for the Health Care Provider Requirements contract to provide health care services for the CAF, RCMP and Veterans Affairs Canada, and subsequently assumed the role of Service Delivery Manager for that contract in September 2017.
Gordon assumed the role of Vice President in 2019. He is responsible for Calian's Health Services operations, with a team of over 1,000 health care providers, operations managers and client delivery personnel across Canada.
Terry RohrkeVP, Test, Aerospace and Defence (SED)
Terry Rohrke is the Vice President, Test, Aerospace and Defence at SED Systems in Saskatoon, reporting to Pat Thera, President of SED.
Terry has more than 36 years of experience at SED in various technical and managerial roles. These include production engineering, project and satellite operations management, and business development. Terry is responsible for developing lasting and growing relationships with major prime contractors and DND on government defence programs, and other companies that can benefit from SED’s engineering and manufacturing services. Terry is also responsible for the successful execution of the programs within the business unit.
Seann HamerVP, Marketing and Business Development (SED)
Seann Hamer is the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development and acting Vice President of Communication Products at SED, reporting to Pat Thera, President of SED.
As the VP of Marketing and Business Development Seann is responsible for expanding the overall sales base of the company in and beyond its traditional lines of business.
As the acting VP of Communication Products he architects the product line strategy for SED’s signal transmission and spectrum monitoring products which are delivered to key players in the satellite, cable networks and test and measurement markets. Further, he is responsible for ensuring that the Communication Products business line achieves its financial and customer satisfaction objectives.
Seann has over 30 years industry experience in the satellite and cable networks industries. His strong technical background combined with customer centric approach enables him and his team to consistently find innovative solutions for issues prospective customers are facing. He focuses on delivering compelling value to customers while developing long term relationships. Seann holds a diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology from the Saskatchewan Technical Institute and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan.
Dan BarilVP, Communication Gateways and Planning Systems (SED)
Dan Baril is the Vice President of Communication Gateways and Planning Systems, reporting to Pat Thera, President of SED. Dan has over 25 years of experience and has held a variety of technical and management roles with SED Systems. Dan is responsible for business development and project execution within SED's Gateway and Planning Systems' business sector.
Dan holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan.
Darren SchlageterVP, Ground Communication Systems and Services (SED)
Darren Schlageter is the Vice President, Ground Communications Systems and Services at SED Systems in Saskatoon, reporting to Pat Thera, President of SED.
Darren has over 25 years of experience in various positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, project, and management roles with SED Systems. Darren is responsible for identifying new opportunities, building customer relations and ensuring good project execution and meeting critical schedules. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from University of Saskatchewan
Bob PrattVP, Finance & Administration (SED)
Bob Pratt is the Vice President of Finance & Administration at SED Systems reporting to Pat Thera, President of SED. Bob is responsible for Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, Facilities, the Project Management Office and Administrative Support. He works closely with the management team providing guidance and support on all financial matters.
Bob has over 20 years executive experience in transportation and manufacturing, most recently within the Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Group. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and is a CP, CA.
Darryl KacherVP, Engineering (SED)
Darryl Kacher is responsible for the operation and evolution of SED's Engineering Department, in which Systems, Hardware and Software developers design and deliver complex and innovative solutions. He is a Professional Engineer, a member of the IEEE, and has a combined degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan. He has been with the company for over 20 years.
Mike TourignyVP, Manufacturing (SED)
Mike Tourigny has over 30 years of experience at SED, including more than 20 years in senior management roles. Mike is responsible for the Manufacturing operation including procurement, assembly, test, service and logistics. He holds Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering and Computer Science.
