CALIAN WINS A $40 MILLION CONTRACT WITH DND (All amounts in this release are in Canadian Dollars)
Ottawa, Ontario December 15, 2008 - Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX: CTY) is pleased to announce that it�s BTS division has been awarded a limitation of expenditure contract by the Department of National Defence (DND) for the provision and delivery of Technical Training to supplement DND resources at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE) located on CFB Kingston, Kingston Ontario.
The initial one-year contract is valued at $6 million. The contract also contains four one-year options, which if exercised could increase the total value of the contract to $40 million for the five-year period. This Contract will allow Calian to continue to support training at CFSCE, a relationship that first began in 2000. This contract, if used to its fullest extent will represent a significant increase in Calian�s current level of support to CFSCE over its term
Under the terms of the contract, Calian will provide support staff and instructors to train and educate current and future Canadian Forces personnel. The training will include disciplines such as: Basic and Advanced Officer training, Technical Trades training, Signal Operator training, Lineman training, Information Technology, Information Management and Systems Management training, Cryptography training, and Tactical Command, Control, Communications System training. Calian will remain a key contributor ensuring the continued provision of quality telecommunication and information technology training to members of the Canadian Forces.
