MED-EMERG APPEALS CITT RULING RELATING TO THE DND CONTRACT FOR HEALTH SERVICES PROVIDERS
Kanata, Ontario July 19, 2005 - Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX: CTY) announced today that Med-Emerg International Inc. has applied to the Federal Court of Appeal seeking to set aside the decision of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT), dated June 15, 2005, by seeking a judicial review of that decision. Med-Emerg had initiated a complaint to the CITT after Calian was awarded the contract for the provision and management of a workforce of qualified health service providers for the Department of National Defence.
In the Judicial Review Application, Med-Emerg is requesting an order to compensate Med-Emerg for losses incurred as a result of alleged irregular procurement by the Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada or, in the alternative, an order directing the CITT to reconsider its decision.
It is expected that the Court filings associated with the Judicial Review process will take several months to complete before the case is scheduled to be heard in the Federal Court of Appeal.
