CALIAN WINS A $60 MILLION DND CONTRACT
Kanata, Ontario April 29, 2003: Calian Technology Ltd. (TSX: CTY) has been awarded a Regional Individual Standing Offer (RISO) by the Department of National Defence (DND) for the provision of academic research assistance to the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston. The standing offer has a total value of $60 million over its six-year life and is a continuation of the services Calian has been providing in support of the Royal Military College of Canada since 1997.
Under the contract terms, Calian will provide technical and professional personnel to carry out research activities at RMC in Science, Engineering and Humanities on an as and when requested basis. This includes professionals in certain specialty areas such as computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering and certain fields of chemical engineering such as energy and the environment. The Calian team will continue to play an integral part in the fulfillment of the R&D programs currently ongoing at RMC, including research in the area of counter-terrorism, the design of geosynthetic-reinforced earth structures against earthquakes, fuel cells, activated charcoals, environmental science and engineering and nuclear science.
