CALIAN TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF JACQUELINE GAUTHIER AS CFO

Kanata, Ontario, March 4, 2002: Calian Technology Ltd (TSE.CTY) today announced that Brian Aitken will be leaving as the company's Chief Financial Officer. He has accepted a senior financial position with NAV CANADA, the company that operates Canada's air navigation service.

Jacqueline Gauthier, currently Calian's Vice-President, Finance, will take over as CFO on March 7, at Calian's annual general meeting of shareholders. Mr. Aitken will remain at Calian until March 22, to ensure an effective transition.

"It is with mixed feelings that I announce that Brian Aitken has chosen to pursue a career outside of Calian," stated Larry O'Brien, Calian's President and CEO. "On the one hand, we will miss his leadership, dedication and discipline. On the other hand, I am very pleased that Brian has found an exciting, challenging position with a much larger entity that will no doubt make the most of his skills and experience. We wish Brian all the best in his new endeavour."

Jacqueline Gauthier joined Calian in October 2000 as Corporate Controller and was promoted to Vice President, Finance in April 2001. A chartered accountant, Jacqueline previously held senior financial roles at Domtar and E.B. Eddy Forest Products.

"Jacqueline has been instrumental in bringing rigour to the management of Calian's finance function, and I am very confident that she will continue this positive momentum in her new role," stated Mr. O'Brien.
