CALIAN AWARDED CONTRACT BY DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE TO PROVIDE PROJECT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR THE GOOSE BAY OFFICE (GBO) IN OTTAWA
Kanata, Ontario, April 09, 2001: Calian ( TSE.CTY ) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide Project Management Staff for the Goose Bay Office (GBO) at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. If the option years of the contract are exercised, the total value of the five-year contract will be approximately $2.5 Million.
The Goose Bay office has been set up in support of allied flight training in Goose Bay, Labrador. At Ministerial direction, the office was established in 1989 as a central and primary point of contact in DND to help the government develop Goose Bay as an effective venue for allied military flying within applicable operational, environmental, infrastructure, financial, legal and social guidelines and constraints. Allied air force training has been ongoing at Goose Bay for several years.
The foreign military training program conducted out of CFB Goose Bay, which involves the air forces of the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy, enhances the operational capabilities of allies, is conducted within strict environmental guidelines, and injects over $75 Million annually into the Canadian economy from offshore - thereby creating jobs and business opportunities for Canadians throughout the region.
