CALIAN'S SYSTEMS ENGINEERING DIVISION WINS $1.5 MILLION CONTRACT FOR WIRELESS TEST EQUIPMENT

Kanata, Ontario Friday, March 24, 2000 - Calian (TSE: CTY) is pleased to announce that its Systems Engineering Division has been awarded a $1.5 million contract from a major telecommunications equipment provider.

Under the terms of the contract, Calian's System Engineering Division will supply customized RF test fixtures that provide band-selective frequency up- and down-conversion and amplification in the 20 - 40 GHz frequency band (Ka-band). The test units will be used to verify the operation of digital microwave radios that provide reliable, high-performance network backbones, capable of transporting large volumes of data and voice traffic for local multipoint distribution (LMDS). Under the terms of the contract, Calian will provide the up- and down-converters over the next 5 months.

Calian's Systems Engineering Division is known worldwide for its expertise in RF and test systems that it supplies to satellite manufacturers, operators and service providers. "The experience and credibility we have established in these technology areas for satellite applications was a significant factor in being awarded this new contract that sees us addressing adjacent markets for terrestrial applications," said Basler.

Calian's Systems Engineering Division's mission is to provide the satellite industry with the rapid delivery of dependable, flexible systems and services that fully satisfy customers' needs in testing, operating and managing their satellite systems. The Systems Engineering Division product lines include In-orbit Test, Satellite Spectrum Monitoring, and Telemetry, Tracking and Command Systems, as well as Satellite Gateways, Network Control Systems and Up-link Stations. Customers include major satellite manufacturers, operators and service providers worldwide. Custom manufacturing services are provided to customers in the local and national markets.

Calian sells e-business and Information Technology (IT) professional services, including management consulting, IT consulting, telecommunications systems engineering, outsourcing and IT staffing.
