CALIAN'S SYSTEMS ENGINEERING DIVISION WINS $1.5 MILLION CONTRACT FOR WIRELESS TEST EQUIPMENT

Kanata, Ontario Friday, March 24, 2000 - Calian (TSE: CTY) is pleased to announce that its Systems Engineering Division has been awarded a $1.5 million contract from a major telecommunications equipment provider.

Under the terms of the contract, Calian's System Engineering Division will supply customized RF test fixtures that provide band-selective frequency up- and down-conversion and amplification in the 20 - 40 GHz frequency band (Ka-band). The test units will be used to verify the operation of digital microwave radios that provide reliable, high-performance network backbones, capable of transporting large volumes of data and voice traffic for local multipoint distribution (LMDS). Under the terms of the contract, Calian will provide the up- and down-converters over the next 5 months.

"The experience and credibility we have established in these technology areas for satellite applications was a significant factor in being awarded this new contract that sees us addressing adjacent markets for terrestrial applications," said Basler.

The Systems Engineering Division product lines include In-orbit Test, Satellite Spectrum Monitoring, and Telemetry, Tracking and Command Systems, as well as Satellite Gateways, Network Control Systems and Up-link Stations. Customers include major satellite manufacturers, operators and service providers worldwide. Custom manufacturing services are provided to customers in the local and national markets.
